CD18, the beta -subunit of beta 2-integrins, is necessary and sufficient to mediate Leukotoxin (Lkt)induced cytolysis of leukocytes. Beta 2-integrins are leukocyte-specific integrins which are expressed on the cell surface as a heterodimer composed of the alpha-subunit CD11 and the beta-subunit CD18. Confirmation of the Dromedary camel CD18 as a receptor for Lkt and elucidation of the enhanced Lkt susceptibility of dromedarian Camel polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs), necessitates the cloning and sequencing of cDNA encoding of dromedarian Camel CD18. Hence, in this study we amplified and cloned the cDNA encoding CD18 of the Dromedary camel.
