Abstract

Catharanthus roseus L. is an Indian originated herb which grows wild in the Indian subcontinent in southern Asia. It is a perennial and ever green shrub. It belongs to family Apocynaceae which is commonly known as ‘periwinkle’ and is an important source of indole alkaloids, which are present in all plant parts. The physiologically important and anti-neoplastic alkaloids namely Vincristine and Vinblastine are mainly present in the leaves. In the present work, an attempt has been made to study the in vitro immunomodulatory properties of hydromethanolic leaves extract of Catharanthus roseus (CRE) through lymphocytes proliferation assay in chicken lymphocytes culture system.
