Pathological observations on tumour of skin in cattle

Abstract

For the present investigation pathology of skin lesions in cattle were studied in 3380 cattle of different age, breed and sex. Out of which 663 skin samples showing gross lesions were preserved in 10% formal saline, processed (acetone benzene techniques) and then stained with H. & E. stain. Neoplasm was found in 28 (4.22%) cases. Various types included were papilloma in 2.11% (14/663) cases, squamous cell carcinoma in 1.65% (11/663) cases, fibropapilloma in 0.15% (1/663) case, basal cell carcinoma in 0.15% (1/663) case and melanoma in 0.15% (16/623) case. Grossly circular wart like rough horney outgrowth of skin,cauliflower like growth at horn core epithilieum, round pedunculated dark brown and black coloured swelling and outgrowth. Microscopically hyperkeratosis, hyperplastic epidermis and dermis, dermis having congestion, haemorrhages and leucocytic infiltration. Tumour cell showed hyperchromatic nuclei.
