Amelerioative effects of Cow Urine Distillate in Cell-mediated Immune Response of Triazophos-toxicated White Leghorn Cockerels

Abstract

Triazophos is a commonly used organophosphate pesticide, which is highly toxic and pose serious threat to animal and human health. These compounds produce toxicity directly by inhibiting the acetylcholine esterase enzyme activity. No investigations have been carried out to observe the immunomodulatory effect of cow urine on organophosphate-toxicated animals and men. Therefore, this paper was designed to study the effect of triazophos toxicity and observe the effects of cow urine distillate in white leghorn cockerels. Twenty five white leghorn male chickens, reared under standard managemental conditions, were randomly divided into five groups of 5 birds each. Different doses of triazophos and cow urine distillate were administered orally through feed at 2.5, 5 ppm levels to groups G2, G3 and through drinking water to groups G4, G5, respectively for 100 days daily, with 1 group as control. The cell-mediated immune (CMI) response of the birds was estimated using lymphocyte stimulation test (LST) and delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH). The DTH and LST were performed twice, on 50th and 100th days. Immunological parameters showed significant (P<0.01) decrease leading to immunosupression in different doses of triazophos treated birds in comparison to control group while a significant increase (P<0.01) in all test values was observed in cow urine-treated groups (G4, G5) as compared to non-cow urine-treated groups (G2 and G3).
