Disease Resistance in Livestock: A Review

Abstract

The different diseases in animals cause mortality as well as morbidity and reduce production. There are several ways to minimise the incidence of diseases, such as management, vaccination schedule and preventive medicines as well as breeding for improved disease resistance. The identification and selectively breeding livestock with an inherent ability to obtain superior immune responses, that can reduce disease occurrence and improve milk, meat, wool, egg quality, reproductive fitness, growth rate and increase farm profitability.
