Abstract

This study envisaged the appraisal of detection of BTV antigen from various samples by S-ELISA BTV kits developed at Bluetongue Virus Laboratory, IVRI, Mukteshwar. For this, a total of 1140 serum samples and 538 blood samples collected from sheep (189) and goats (349) were collected from various places of Gujarat state. Six spleen samples from sheep and goats (i.e. 1 from sheep, 2 from goats and 3 from aborted goat foetus) as well as Culicoides samples collected from various farms within the Gujarat were pooled into nine samples were also screened for presence of BTV antigen. Out of 553 samples (538-blood, 6-spleen and 9-pooled Culicoides) screened for detection of BTV antigens, 174 (29.94%) samples were found positive for presence of BTV antigen, whereas out of 555 sera from aborted sheep (166) and goats (389), 185 (33.33%) samples showed positive results.
