Abstract

Singh VK, Tiwari R, Kumar A and Yadav SK (2020). Brucellosis in Dairy Animals in Gaushalas of Braj Region of Uttar Pradesh: A Pilot Study. Journal of Immunology Immunopathology, 22(2): 142–146.

Among the various serological methods used for locating infected dairy animals and surveillance of brucellosis-free herds, milk ring test (MRT) is the easiest and practical method based on non-invasive sampling. Keeping this in view, the present study was conducted to assess the status of the disease at herd level in five major gaushalas of Braj region of Uttar Pradesh, India. For the investigation, a total of 160 milk samples were collected for screening of anti-brucella antibodies employing MRT. Out of the five herds under screening, three were found positive with 8 out of 50, 3 out of 45 and 2 out of 36 samples positive in MRT. In conclusion, the findings suggest the presence of the anti-brucella antibodies in the milk samples of dairy herds under investigation and indicate the need for confirmation of each animal for the presence of disease for controlling the spread to other animals and humans as well.
