Abstract

If a child has recurrent episodes of infection associated with lymph node enlargement and cytopenias in ≥1 lineage, an immune disorder should be suspected. Other common causes for lymphadenopathy, hepato-splenomegaly or cytopenias are considered prior to evaluating for immune causes, often delaying the diagnosis. Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) is one such rare immune disorder. This article reports the challenges in diagnosis of ALPS in two children, and also briefly highlights the importance of diagnosing this disease.
