Abstract

Lindane, an organochlarine insecticide was found to exert its immunopathological effects in poultry at no obserable effect level (NOEL) dose. A total of 40 chicks were divided in two groups of 20 each. Group I was kept as untreated control while group II birds were given 25 ppm lindane in feed for 6 months. Observations were made at 10 days interval on blood collected for various immunological parameters. There was reduction of 21–29.5% in antibody titres, 15.5% in B-cell blastogenesis, 22.5% in T-lymphocyte blastogenesis and 19.1% in DTH reaction in birds treated with lindane in comparison to controls.
