Uranyl nitrate was found to cause immuno suppression affecting cell-mediated immunity when given orally to calves @ 1.5 mg/kg.b.wt. for 60 days. The mean delta OD in uranyl nitrate-treated calves as measured by lymphocyte stimulation test using CON-A and PHA mitogens recorded reduction in values when compared with corresponding control values. Similarly, delayed type hypersensitivity reaction in uranyl nitrate treated calves also revealed significant decrease of mean skin thickness and decreased cellular activity at the reaction site in comprision to healthy controls.
