Abstract

Immunomodulatory effect of Growell (Feed supplement with iron bhasma) was studied in Infectious Bursal Disease vaccinated chicks. Two hundred and twenty five day-old chicks were divided into 3 equal groups viz, control C (plain feed), treatment T1 (plain feed + Growell@ 0.5g/kg of feed) and T2 (plain feed + Growell @ 1g/kg feed). Body weights and weekly weight gain was significantly higher in treatment groups. Haematological parameters (TEC, TLC, Hb and PCV) showed significantly higher values in treatment groups. Mortality was also found to be less in Growell treated groups as compare to control groups. Chicks were vaccinated against Infectious Bursal Disease and New Castle disease. Post vaccination IBD and NCD antibody titre showed significant difference between Growell treated and control groups, which was observed by QAGPT, PHA, ELISA (IBD) and HI (NCD) tests respectively. Cell mediated immune response was significantly higher in treatment groups as adjudged by Contact Sensitivity Test using DNCB. Bursa body weight ratio were higher in treatment groups as compare to control groups. It was concluded that Growell feed supplement is having immunostimulatory effect in IED vaccinated chicks, also it has tonic effect on general health as growth promotor.
