Buffalo pox is an important viral zoonosis, commonly occurs in an epidemic form in buffalo tracts of India and other countries and is responsible for causing considerable economic losses. Tissue culture techniques are fundamental and indispensable tools for studying the nature of virus-cell interactions. The present study reports the cytopathic effects (CPE) of a field isolate (BP-78) of buffalopox virus (BPV) in vero cells. The freeze dried BPV (BP-78 strain) was revived on chorio-allantoic membrane of chicken embryo and adapted in vero cells cultured in GME medium. The CPE from 1st till 16th passage levels along with virus titer values are reported.
