Abstract

A monoclonal antibody based IgM Dipstick assay developed as a Kit by the Royal Tropical Institute, The Netherlands for early diagnosis of brucellosis is used and compared with conventional serological tests. Of the 60 individuals examined 10 were positive in IgM Dipstick assay, 36 in Rose Bengal plate agglutination test (RBPT) and 42 exhibited titres ranging between 1:10 and 1:1280 in serum tube agglutination test (STAT). The IgM Dipstick assay appears to be an appropriate test to diagnose brucellosis in early stages of infection so that an appropriate treatment could be started in time.
