Abstract

The components within Leishmania donovani species with respect to involvement of their polypeptides in diagnosis and immunoprophylaxis against visceral leishmaniasis (VL) infection is reported. The potential role of four components of Leishmania namely 63kDa, 43kDa, 19kDa & 17kDa polypeptides in the diagnosis of VL was shown. Out of these four components 63kDa polypeptide induced significant T-cell response for migration inhibition factor (MIF) release, thus indicating its potential role in immunoprophylaxis against VL.
