Total body irradiation (TBI) of 2 Gy caused splenic depletion and reduced the antibody response to erythrocytes. TBI increased the levels of inflammatory cytokines. Pre-treatment with L-arginine significantly increased the splenic depletion and also sensitized the mice against TBI Post-treatment with L-arginine significantly decreased the levels of inflammatory cytokines. TBI significantly altered the Con A response of the splenic lymphocytes. L-arginine significantly modified the Con A response of splenic lymphocytes from TBI-treated mice. Post-treatment of L-arginine to TBI exposed mice restored the antibody producing capability of the splenic lymphocytes.
