Serological assays such as PGL-1, LAM and 35 kDa based assays were extensively used in monitoring patients, which are under treatment. They are also useful in diagnosing cases of relapse. Two assays, anti PGL-1 and anti-LAM antibodies were used in this study. Among 55 blood samples of released from treatment (RFT) patients 51 were PB and 4 were MB patients. Positivity by anti-LAM was found in 25/51 PB patients and 3/4 MB patients. Whereas antibody assay PGL-1 was positive only in one PB case and none of the MB cases. Thus PGL-1 appears to be more specific serological assay for detection of active leprosy.
