Abstract

Brucellosis is a major zoonosis for which attempts are being made to develop a safer and more effective vaccine. The present study deals with the immunogenicity of soluble antigen mixtures extracted from a live Brucella abortus S-99 culture. Two antigen preparations, viz., Brucella abortus sonicated antigen (BASA) and sonicated antigen (SA) were investigated and evaluated for their immunogenicity in rabbits. The immune response as detected and measured by RBPT and SAT were positive from 10 day onward and reached high titres The titers achieved by SA were higher than those by BASA mixture. Due to LPS contamination of antigen mixtures prepared from smooth strains of brucellae, use of rough strains for studying immune protective proteins is better option.
