Abstract

In this report we have described the biological and molecular characterization of a paramyxovirus type-1 (PPMV-1) isolated from pigeon showing clinical symptoms like diarrhea, tremor, ataxia, torticolis and wing paralysis. The MDT, ICPI and IVPI of the isolate was 112hr, 0.42 and 0.00, respectively, suggesting it to be lentogenic. However, pigeons inoculated with the isolates became sick and died. The fusion ‘F’ protein gene of the virus syndrome was partially amplified and sequenced. The amino acid sequence at the F2/F1 cleavage site was 112 RRQKRF 117, typical of virulent NDV. These results provide further evidence about the unusual pathogenicity of PPMV-1 for chickens.
