Evaluation of Engineering College Websites in Andhra Pradesh

Abstract

The World Wide Web (WWW) has having a significant impact on the access to the huge quantity of information available through the Internet. The Internet is a great learning tool and has several advantages in the field of education. Technical education in Andhra Pradesh has seen tremendous growth over the past two decades, in both number of students and use of information on the WWW. A number of aspects, such as the published information on WWW may not be reliable, may not be authentic and may not be current and filtered. Evaluation of websites is very important to improve the quality of services and to optimise usage. This study aims to evaluate and analyse the services, facilities and other information available on the websites of 246 engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Data are collected from June 2014 to January 2015 by using checklist. The results of this study revealed that the extent use of the engineering college websites in Andhra Pradesh and suggested measures to enhance the usability of these websites.
