Efficient attendance management remains a critical concern for organizations, necessitating a shift from manual tracking methods to automated systems. This paper explores the landscape of attendance management solutions, encompassing technologies like barcodes, Aadhar cards, biometrics, and RFIDs. However, existing systems often suffer from drawbacks such as high hardware costs and susceptibility to damage. In response to these challenges, this paper conducts a comprehensive survey of current attendance systems, evaluating their strengths and weaknesses in various educational contexts. It delves into emerging trends, including cloud-based solutions and the integration of machine learning algorithms. Additionally, considerations for privacy and data security in biometric and cloud-based solutions are addressed. By identifying areas for improvement, this paper aims to provide insights for developing advanced and cost-effective attendance management solutions that cater to the evolving needs of educational institutions, ensuring efficient automation while mitigating potential drawbacks.
