Total quality management (TQM) is a philosophy and system of continuously improving the services and/or products offered to customers. Contemporary businesses that do not practice TQM may become non-competitive on a global economic level. A recent study by the World Bank has shown that higher education helps to increase the quality of manpower. Thus, higher education is an essential investment to build quality of life on a large scale. The significant relationship between the economy and education is now realized. Quality education has been a major issue in the societies of many countries over the past few decades. However, little work has been done to measure and control quality in this area. This study investigates the significance level of TQM determinants related to higher education. However, this is a challenging task and is treated as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. ANP is used to obtain initial weights and TOPSIS is used to evaluate the TQM capabilities and ranking of various Indian universities. Finally, sensitivity analysis is performed to confirm the robustness of the method.
