Abstract

The present research focuses on adolescents perceived relationship with their parents in context of Mothers’ work (homemakers and employed outside home). The sample size consisted of 60adolescents, 30 boys and 30 girls, in the age group of 11-18 years. The entire sample was drawn from the urban areas of Jammu City. Parent-Adolescent Relationship Scale was used for data collection. Results reveal that most of the mothers were in the age group of 41-45 years and Fathers were in the age group of 46-50 years. The results revealed that Working Mothers had a loving relationship with their adolescents, whereas Homemaking Mothers were more demanding, Punishing, Rejecting, Neglecting and Indifferent, although there were non-significant differences in the context of mothers’ work status. Mothers were demanding, in favour of Object Punishment and Object Reward for sons, whereas Fathers were in favour of Object Punishment. For daughters, the mothers were Protecting, Demanding, Punishing, Loving and in favour of Symbolic Reward, whereas Fathers were Neglecting and in favour of Object Reward, although none of the differences were significant.
