Abstract

Training becomes an ongoing process in organizations as the level of qualifications become outdated quickly. Consequently, organizations started using training as a competitive tool to achieve higher standards of productivity, quality and effectiveness and adapt or change business strategies to accommodate to the external environment. This study was conducted to find out the training practices adopted in a garment manufacturing unit that recruits illiterate employees as apprentice and train them and increase their skills along with the increase in productivity. A theoretical model was proposed that explored the relationship between training design, training implementation and training evaluation. The study was descriptive in nature and data was collected using a questionnaire. Respondents for the study comprised one hundred and thirty five respondents selected at random spread across the various departments. Analysis comprised of descriptive statistics, one way analysis of variance, correlation analysis and model validation. The study revealed that the training practices were effective and picturized how training could be made effective. New methods could be adopted considering the trainees feedback and innovative methods could be launched. Trainees could be afforded educational facilities to complete their schoolings.
