Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore the influence of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Social Intelligence (SI) on Employability among college students, and to establish a statistical association between them.

The study is descriptive in nature. The study has been conducted on 584 college students studying in Indore district, selected using convenience sampling. Research data has been collected using Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) by Anukool Hyde, Sanjyot Pethe and Upinder Dhar (2002), Social Intelligence Scale (SIS) by N.K. Chadha and Usha Ganesan (2009) and Perceived Employability Scale (PES) by K. P. Naachimuthu (2005). Correlation and Regression methods have been used for data analysis.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is linked to student’s employability to a good extent. Considerable association exists between Social Intelligence (SI) of college students and their Employability. EI and SI both together influence employability among students.

The study provides insights to the college students aiming for secured employability prospects. The research emphasizes the need for students to enhance their EI and SI for better employability. The study is also helpful for educational institutions, universities and educational policy makers in terms of inclusion of EI and SI in regular curriculum as well as training modules for enhancing employability prospects.

This research further paves way for understanding the interaction between EI, SI and Employability by developing meditating models. Also, this study provides future research prospects to conduct longitudinal study for analyzing the association of emotional intelligence and social intelligence with employability.
