This paper is an attempt to use the recent knowledge of Applied Climatology in order to ezamine to what extent Thornthwaite's scheme could be used to explain the distribution of natural vegetation on the basis of climatic data in Mysore State. The correspondences observed are so marked and convincing that they justify the applicability of water balance concepts to practical problems and thus establish the rationality of the approach as well.
