Trace element deficiency in Indian soils has been reported to be quite extensive. Unlike major nutrients, trace element study has not received adequate emphasis in the country and the information is fragmentary. On the basis of the existing information, an assessment has been made of the trace element status of Indian soils both in respect of soil analysis and response of crops to the application of micro-nutrients either in soil or as foliar spray.
