Abstract

In artificial sand medium, at a low temperature environment (20°C), cellulose decomposition could be enhanced by the addition of suitable concentrations of molybdenum trioxide. The treatment also lowered the nitrogen losses from the reacting system. ‘Cellulose decomposing capacity’ of the fungi were maximum (in the order of 10−3) when the amount of molybdenum trioxide was 10−6 g. The value reduced to 10−4 from 10−3 where its quantity used was greater or lower than 10−6 g.
