Abstract

A reconnaissance soil survey was carried out of about 1440 sq km (556 sq miles) of the Vijapur Community Development Block, north Gujarat. The annual rainfall is 59 cm and the tract is considered as a semi-arid region. The soils are derived from riverine and aeolian alluvium. In this survey three soil series are established: (i) Kharod, (ii) Randheja and (iii) Santej. Kharod series are chiefly confined to the upper flats of the northern part of the area, Randheja occupy the mid flats and Santej series are confined to the lower lands in the south.
