The phosphorus compounds in four Nigerian soils were eluted from a column with 0.01M CaCl2 solution at 12 intervals. In each case the earlier fractions contained appreciably higher amounts of organic as well as inorganic phosphorus and then their concentration either dropped sharply to a constant level or else rose to a higher value before attaining a constant level The organic phosphorus appears to be sorbed in one case and chemically bound in the others.
