Abstract

Mitscherlich-type equations were used to express the response of corn to nitrogen fertilization. In a pot experiment, ammonium sulphate was added in five different treatments. The comparison of the values of “c” in the Mitscherlich equations gave a quantitative evaluation of the efficiency of each treatment relative to a standard one. In the field experiment, the economical rate of nitrogen application was calculated from the Mitscherlich equation relating the amount of applied nitrogen and yield of corn. A straight line relationship between yield of corn and per cent nitrogen in corn leaves (40 days old) was established and suggested as a guide for nitrogen fertilization of corn under the experimental conditions.
