The retention and release of molybdenum were studied using three soils, viz., black, red and alkali soils under permanent water-logged conditions. The introduction of cations like Fe++, OH-+, Mn++, Zn++ and Al+++ or anions like CO3⁼ and PO4≡ along with molybdate resulted in a varied retention of Mo and its subsequent release by the soils.
