Abstract

The inorganic soil phosphorus was fractionated as Al, Fe and Ca-bound phosphorus and also their occluded forms. Ca-bound phosphorus was found to represent maximum amount, on an average 79.5 and 78.9 per cent of inorganic phosphorus in grey soils and brown soils respectively. Ah bound phosphorus and occluded Al-bound phosphorus represented 9.8 and 10.9 per cent of inorganic phosphorus in grey soils and brown soils respectively. Fe-bound phosphorus represented the least amount of inorganic phosphorus. Fe-bound phosphorus and occluded Fe-bound phosphorus were found to contain 0.94, 0.86 and 10.35, 9.87 per cent of inorganic phosphorus in the above two soils respectively. No significant correlation was obtained between Olsen phosphorus and Ca-bound phosphorus in both the soils.
