Abstract

The distribution of available, reducible and total iron and their relationship to different soil properties were studied in representative sierozem soil profiles from Haryana. Available, reducible and total iron content ranged from 2.2 to 107.2 ppm, 94 to 1213 ppm and 2.05 to 6.87 per cent respectively.

Based on simple correlation, partial and multiple linear function analysis, available iron was positively related to organic carbon and reducible iron contents. Reducible iron was significantly positively related to organic carbon and clay content and negatively to pH. CaCO3 content did not affect significantly available or reducible iron contents. Total iron content was not affected by any soil character, except pH, which was negatively related.
