A field experiment was conducted at the University Farm to study the cation exchange capacity of the roots of different varieties of the wheat crop and its relation to available nutrients, pH and electrical conductivity. There were significant differences in the root exchange capacity of the different varieties up to 65 days after sowing. After this period no significant differences were observed in the CEC values. Available nutrients and pH were not correlated significantly to CEC of roots throughout the experiment. Electrical conductivity was significantly correlated to C. E. C. and pH to available Ca at all stages of growth.
