Abstract

In order to assess the possible role of sunnhemp green manuring in mobilising soil phosphorus for the benefit of sugarcane crop, tracer studies were conducted, utilising tagged superphosphate to identify the extent of enhancement in the available status of soil phosphorus and ‘A’ value using sugarcane as a test crop under pot culture conditions. Two years data show that neither the ‘A’ value nor the Olsen's test value has been enhanced as a result of green manuring. It appears, therefore, that benefits ascribable to sunnhemp green manuring to sugarcane do not accrue through mobilisation of soil phosphorus alone.
