Abstract

Maximum avail. N was accumulated in 15–30 cm of the soil when 3/4 field capacity (FC) level of irrigation was given and in 30–45 cm depth if the irrigation applied was 1 FC, while about 35 per cent of the applied N was leached from 0.30 cm of the soil with 3 FC level of irrigation given at the crown-root stage of wheat. Optimum irrigation for realising maximum grain yields was found to be 3/4 FC level which was as good as that of 1 FC level.
