Abstract

Regular decreases in the total, inorganic and organic S contents in soils and S present in various humus fractions with depth are recorded in some soils of Rajasthan. 56.3 to 75.8% of total org. S is associated with humus fractions, mostly in humic acids (HA) followed by fulvic acids (FA), humins, β-humus and least in hymatomelanic acid. The HA-S/FA-S varies from 0.37 to 7.37, decreasing with increasing depth. Similarities of constitutional composition were observed between sulphur present in certain humus fractions.
