Abstract

Polyethylene glycol-6000 solution of different concentrations were passed through a pe forated tube wrapped in a semi-permeable membrane to osmotically controlled matric suction in a soil cylinder of uniform initial salt concentration. This induced flow rates ranged from 3.26 × 10−7 to 1.86 × 10−6 cm sec−1. At higher flow rates 36Cl accumulated close to the membrane-soil interface, where C/Ci ranged from 1.64 to 1.9. No accumulation occurred at lower flow rates.
