Abstract

Usually large amounts of Fe2+ are present in waterlogged rice fields of Dhankar area but on drying the samples in the laboratory the amount of Fe2+ was found to be low. The soils with higher contents of Fe2+ were found to be rich in avail. Fe. The level of Fe2+ as under field condition could not be attained even after 60 days of rewaterlogging the soils in the laboratory. But when glucose was added, as a source of organic matter to the soils, the amounts of Fe2+, Fe2+ plus Fe3+ and avail. Fe were 2–5 times greater after 30 days of incubation. Various forms of Fe were correlated negatively with pH and CaCO3 and positively with org. C in the soils.
