Abstract

NPK fertilizers with organic matter generally increased the root cation exchange capacity of certain varieties of rice and wheat crops throughout their physiological growth stages. Organic matter alone also increased the root CEC of all the varieties of wheat after tillering stage of plant growth. Application of N in soil significantly increased the root CEC of wheat varieties and some varieties of rice throughout the plant growth. Phosphorus and potassium had little effect.
