Abstract

Application of gamma BHC at the rate of 1 kg active ingredient per ha in saline and calcareous soils of Pusa Farm in conjunction with nitrogenous fertilizers indicated that this treatment combination has reduced termite attack and shoot borer damage and increased the yield of sugarcane significantly. It was observed that yield of sugarcane due to gamma BHC plus N at 75 kg/ha was even higher than 150 kg/ha of N alone. Analysis of plant and soil samples showed that this insecticide was found to increase the N and K contents in plants and org. C per cent in soil as compared to no gamma BHC treated samples. Wider K/Ca ratio was also recorded in gamma BHC treated plant samples than those without it.
