Abstract

Responses of wheat to some of the physical parameters were investigated in a field study of simultaneous variation in soil fertility, physical characteristics and fertilizer doses. In general, grain yield was found to have a parabolic relationship with bulk density, oxygen diffusion rate and resistance to penetration. Optimum or minimum level differed with the depth and variety of the test crop. Implications of the variation in physical properties in routine soil testing for making fertilizer recommendations are discussed.
