Forty representative soils of South India were investigated for their K supplying power both by laboratory estimates of K using various extractants and by successive intense Neubauer cropping technique. Of the various chemical extractants tried, N HNO3 soluble K was most closely related to plant uptake (r=0.909). When all the extracting agents gave positive significant relationship to the total uptake of K by plants only a few of them were found to be related with the dry matter yield.
