Abstract

An attempt was made to establish soil water functional relationships, viz, intensity, rate and capacity variables and diffusivity with respect to soil moisture of some soils of Haryana state. The capacity variable is the first derivative of h-θ relationship and is closely related to “pore-size” distribution. Intensity variable refers to the affinity that exists between the soil and the water. The rate variable determines the rates at which water flows through the soil at different moisture contents. All the functional relations were obtained by calculation method by using h-θ relationship of undisturbed soils. Soil parameter (b), air-entry suction (he) and exponents for θ in various soil water functional relationships increased as the soil became heavier except the exponent for θ in h-θ relationship which decreased as the soil became finer in texture. To utilize these functional relationships on a large scale planning, they are depicted on the soil textural map of Haryana state.
