Abstract

Effect of temperature and rate of drying, wetting and drying cycles, soil moisture and method of wetting on modulus of rupture of soil has been studied in four soils varying in texture. Modulus of rupture decreased with increase in temperature of drying, rate of drying, number of wetting and drying cycles, initial soil moisture content, moisture content at the time of measurement and slow rate of wetting by sprinkling or capillarity, whereas, it increased with wetting by flooding. The quantitative relationships between modulus of rupture and the factors studied were established wherever possible in the four soils.
