Abstract

An experiment was conducted in pots to study the comparative effect of application of gypsum and pyrites on some soil properties, wheat yield and their residual effect on yield and composition of rice. Gypsum was more effective in reducing the pH, conductivity and sodium content of the soil as compared to pyrite. Different levels of amendments increased the wheat yield. Highest yield of wheat and rice were found with gypsum applied at 40 and 60 % gypsum requirement levels, respectively while in case of pyrites, highest yield of both the crops was obtained with 200 % level. In the leachate collected from amended soils, sodium, potassium, calcium, carbonate, bicarbonate aud sulphate increased with the levels of applied gypsum and pyrite.
