Abstract

Some of the physicochemical characteristics of the organic components of twelve soils collected from places of varying altitudes (foot-hills to 3400 m altitude) and climatological conditions have been examined. (i) Decrease in the clay content, (ii) increase in organic matter and (iii) increase in the proportion of easily extract able fraction of humus are some of the significant observations in the samples from regions of gradual increase in altitude.
