Abstract

Relationship between the root cation exchange capacity and nutrient contents in shoot and grain of different varieties of rice and wheat was studied in pot experiments. Only in few cases, significant positive correlation was recorded. Phosphorus content in shoot of wheat var. Sarbati Sonora and potassium content in shoot of rice var. Jamuna were significantly correlated with the root cation exchange capacity at blossoming stage of plant growth. CEC of rice roots was higher than that of wheat roots. CEC of plant roots was higher at early rather than later stages of plant growth.
