Abstract

Continuous application of FYM for five years helped in maintaining and improving physical properties of eroded alluvial soil and gave higher crop yield as compared to application of chemical fertilizers alone in a permanent manurial trial. Chemical fertilizers did not improve the physical properties of soil. It has been concluded that if nitrogenous fertilizer is used in combination with FYM and superphosphate, significantly higher yields of maize can be obtained without any deterioration to physical make up of eroded alluvial soil.
