Abstract

Distribution of forms of potassium was studied in some soils of different agro-climatic regions of Haryana which are under intensive cultivation. Water soluble, exchangeable, available, non-exchangeable, lattice and total K ranged from 4 to 39, 12 to 225, 16 to 264, 175 to 1625, 1500 to 4700, and 11500 to 31000 ppm, respectively. The available K constituted 0.3% of total K, 2.5% of lattice K and 12.1% of fixed K. The water soluble and exchangeable K, respectively, contributed on an average 17.6 and 82.4% towards available K.

Both total and lattice K were positively correlated with silt and clay and exchangeable and non-exchangeable with CEC, organic carbon and clay but all the forms were negatively correlated with sand. The different forms of K were positively correlated to each other except water soluble K which has positive correlation with exchangeable K only. Soils of dissected rolling plains receiving higher rainfall and those of flood plains and plains with sand dunes contained lower amount of available and potentially available form of K than those of upland plains. Soils under forest vegetation has more labile K in surface layer in comparison to those under intensive cultivation.
